New to the UK and need to apply for a National Insurance Number contact helpline
To apply for a National Insurance Number, you will need to contact the department for work and pensions (DWP). When applying for a UK National Insurance Number you will need to attend an interview at your local Job Centre Plus. This interview will be arranged on the phone for you. Locate National Insurance Number phone number
If you have previously been issued a national insurance number but longer have confirmation or remember the number, you can contact the HMRC to receive confirmation. They are unable to pass on your number over the phone due to security purposes so you will receive a letter to your address instead. You can request a copy via phone but this method is not always successful. If you were unable to answer the questions via phone, we would recommend sending a CA5403 completed form to the HMRC. Alternatively, you can find it through your personal tax account via signing in on the Gov.uk site.
